On my first attempt to POST my system I had the motherboard on a metal laptop... I'm an idiot. Everything spun up and seemed to start working but I had no video output. No beeps. The only thing I noticed was the gpu fan started, stopped, then started back up once I started it. This is pretty much exactly what happens each time I try to post. I only have the CPU, graphics card, usb keyboard/mouse, and one stick of RAM (only stick) when I tried to POST. I reseated everything multiple times. When there is no RAM the cpu fan spins much slower for some reason, but still no beeps. Any ideas? Thanks

My set up.

ASRock 990fx Extreme3
FX-8320
Corsair Ballistix Sport 1600 8GB
Corsair 500W modular
MSI 7790

you put your motherboard on a conductive surface then turned the power on? im surprised you didnt see a flash and blue smoke... but yeah you have likely shorted out the motherboard... check the back for scorches and the front for swollen/leaking kaps.
you would also be wise to test all your other components in a different build to see if they got damaged as well.

I just noticed there are rubber mounts on the bottom stopping the conductive surface from touching the board. The only think conductive touching was the back plate of the heatsink on the cpu
