Approximate Purchase Date: Within 2-3 weeks

Budget Range: $1000 excluding the cost of a monitor and OS ($100 for OS, $150 +/- 10% for the monitor)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, web browsing, watching movies and anime.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: NCIX.ca, Tigerdirect.ca newegg.ca, or Canadacomputers.com (all parts of the build from ONE site please)

Location: Canada - Mississauga, Ontario.

Parts Preferences: I'd like the best cpu for gaming that is no more than $220 (STRICT budget at the moment)

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 (I'll be purchasing a new monitor)

Comments: I want a case with decent cable management options, and that could hide a non modular PSU to save extra cash if possible. Also please give recommendations for a monitor for $150 or less. I'm not very picky as i've been using a 1440x900 monitor for 3 years.

Thank you all in advance for helping me out.

Since you're not overclocking or using SLI/XFIRE, you can step down to a H87 or even a H81 motherboard to save some cash if you're going Haswell. If you're going Ivy Bridge, the H77 chipset will do also. An i5 will do and is available in your budget (non-k version because you're not overclocking). Unless of course you want to go AMD, in which case the FX-6350/6300 or FX-8320 will be great. A GTX 760 or Radeon HD 7950 would be good for 1920x1080, and they're pretty affordable too. A Samsung 840 EVO SSD (new) offers good price/performance, and something like a Seagate Barracuda 1TB is good for mass storage. OS-wise, Windows 8 offers improved gaming performance and upcoming DirectX 11.2 (use Start8 and MetroMix, both from Stardock, if you want more Win7-like experience).

I'll look into case and PSU for you in a bit, but this should give you some food for thought and/or guidelines.

I've also been using a 1440x900 monitor for over 7 years now, and it's never failed me ;) I found this LG IPS 23' monitor @ Memory Express for $130 which I also happen to be interested in: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX33251

ALSO: Remember, you can price check things @ CanadaComputers, so then you could go in-store and avoid shipping. But you still pay tax. It could save you a lot of money though ;)

this build should fullfill your need's. its around 30$ cheaper than your 1250$ mark. it may look like this build has overkill gfx but you can max out pretty much all games with 50+ FPS at 1080p res with the GTX 770.

Is that CPU powerful enough? How does it compare to a i5 4570 or an fx 8320?

First of, thanks for replying so quickly :) i appreciate it. Secondly, AMD doesn't sound half bad for my budget, but everywhere I look all i see is people saying intel is much better, but intel has much higher prices most of the time. How would a 4570 compare to a fx 8320? the 8320 is $160 on ncix where the 4570 is $219. I'll be pairing these with either a GTX 760 or GTX 770

@MRC390 in gaming performance 8320 and ivyB i5's and FX 8320/50 should stay close. it maybe a little slower compared to haswell in gaming performance but it will be too small to notice.

and the only differance between 4430 and 4670 is that 4430 has 3.0Ghz clock while the other one has 3.4. the differance is not over 1Ghz so that won't also be a problem.

AMD lacks a bit in terms of single-core performance compared to Intel, but they're great in games like Crysis 3 and BF3 which use all 8 cores of, say, an 8320 or 8350. Plus more and more games will be optimized for more cores, but at the end of the day, they're both close in performance, even in multithreaded games.

Definitely. But if it goes past your budget you could also consider the GTX 760 which is also great at 1080p.
