Hi guys im new to the forums but not this site been reading on here for years!

Anyway I just built a new haswell system asus z87 pro with 4770k 16gb ballistix memory at 1600mhz also 7950 amd and intel ssd.

I seen a lot of people not able to overclock more then 4.5 or so some 4.6 and so on but even at them overclocks everyone says heat is a major issue now this is my question did I really get this lucky with this processor because im able to overclock to 4.7 plus and still idle temps 35 to 40c and full load 60c.

I didn't try to push further yet by raising voltage or so on but its rock solid stable and great temps at 4.7 that its at now.

Now I do have a h100i but is that whats really keeping it that cool or do you guys think I just lucked out? I purchased this processor at microcenter onsale for 279 plus another 40 bucks off for buying the motherboard with it.

Here's a pic of current temps while encoding a mkv to wmvhd 8.3gig file

http://

Thanks for your time!

It appears that you won the silicon lottery. Every CPU will overclock just a bit different from the others and while some will have the temps start to climb at lower clocks others will not and will be able to get higher overclocks because they lucked out and got a good CPU.

Thanks I thought so too I didn't think the h100i was possibly that good to keep temps so low I figured it must be the processor.

I was about to put the stock cooler on just to see what idle/load temps stock was then retest with h100i stock speeds also just to compare but I don't think I need to at this point I lucked out for once lol.

I will try to see just how far I can push it stable. I booted to windows at 5gz but then blue screened on me ten min later but it wasn't a temp thing cause they were still low either it was too low of volts or maybe memory or other things stoping it I will set all to default then just step up the multiplier/voltage to see how far it will go before throttling.

Thanks for the tip im only stepping it one at a time testing then stepping up again. will see how far it goes stable. Main thing for me is keeping a stable overclock and temps in check once I max it out ill step it down some just for safety.

I admit this might be pure jelousy speaking now but did you confirm those temps with another monitoring program?
Because - at least on my Sabertooth mobo - AISuite uses a different, less accurate sensor to view CPU temps.

Some programs like Hardware Monitor actually give a higher reading then it actually is and I have found that Real Temp is about the most accurate.
I think the program that you actually pay for will give you the best readings over any of the free ones.

Ive checked temps with coretemp and asus ai suite also hardware montitor all around the same but coretemp seems to be a little higher then the asus program and I tend to use the coretemp more cause I kinda trust it more then the asus one.

I hit 5.1ghz was able to boot to windows but blue screened. After tweaking some settings with memory im able to run 5ghz pretty much stable. Temps with prime 95 get it up to 80c at that speed after 10 min or so but no errors and stable.

So I backed it down to 4.8ghz ran prime 95 for 1 hour no errors and temps stay 65 to 70c max while running prime.

I should add I was able to hit these speeds with my memory at 1800mhz cl8 ..when memory was lower at 1600mhz It would blue screen at 5ghz and sometimes not even boot fully. But since upping the memory speed to 1800mhz it now will run stable at 5ghz but temps at 80c full load with prime so that kind of scared me at those temps so I backed it down to 4.8.

Very weird considering what I read most of the time backing the memory down (lower MHz) helps achieve a higher oc but not the case for me its the opposite that worked lol.

I bet with even better cooling then this h100i I could hit even more speed but right now h100i is working fine and I see no need to push it further although it is tempting :bounce:

Kraken x60.
I have to power VCore up to 1.3, CPU Cache to 1,25 and Input to 2.0/2.1 to get it stable. But I would hit 87°C-89°C running Prime.

I guess someone (<--see what I did there) has to lose the silicon lottery. ;)
