Transferring hdd to upgraded mobo

Hello,

I'll be upgrading to a new system soon and was curious about transferring my current hdd to my new motherboard and whether or not this will cause issues with the os or any other software.

This is the mobo I'm hoping to upgrade to-

And this is my current hdd-

If any conflicts do arise does this mean I have to repurchase my os after a reformat?

Yes, of course you can move your old hard drive... but you will have to reinstall windows.

As for purchasing your OS again, it depends on what you have.

Hmm, are you aware of a way to retrieve the license after doing a wipe?

Sure - just make sure you have your licence key and you can use it again when you reinstall windows; if it gives you trouble activating, call microsoft and explain what's going on.

That's presuming you have windows 7. If you have windows 8 it's even easier because you just unlicense the old computer and install without troubles on the new one.
