Hi, i recently purchased a gs700 psu for my a gaming rig that im slowly building, i hooked up the gs700 to my old rig to give it a test run but was fairly unimpressed, for starters the fan comes on and off when ever it feels like it and secondly upon visual inspection the unit looks poorly made, the internal components look cheap and poorly constructed, it looks like someone went to town with a glue gun inside it!
Is this the norm for corsair? Should i just go with it or can any one recommend a top quality psu?

Solution
The fan is probably designed to twitch when it starts to let you know it's working and then turn on depending on heat.
Also, don't worry about the glue inside of it; that's common for lower-end Corsairs. (i.e. the ones not made by seasonic.)

No, you don't have the best power supply in the world, but it'll be fine. Unless you have a crossfire or SLI setup, however, you don't need nearly that much power.

Seasonic makes two models that you should strongly consider: A 620w Bronze rated power supply - the non-modular version sells for $65. The other power supply to look for is the X-650 Gold, which is just about the best designed power supply out there.
