I need to replace my CPU, but my cooler simply won't budge. I've taken the motherboard out of the computer, and I cannot see anything holding it there.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Sometimes you have to warm the heatsink up to release the thermal grease, you can do this by running the system for a few minutes or by using a blow dryer or heatgun.
Amd and older intel CPU use a latch across the CPU heat sink. The newer heat sinks uses platic legs that you have to turn to have them fall out of the mb. Some older CPU heat sinks the vendors uses thermal tape not paste. If tape was used you have to use a small screw driver to peel the heat sink off the CPU. One trick over the years to break tape and paste is slowly rock the heat sink left to right to Break the bond.
