Hey guys its been a while since I played with my Old AlienWare Aurora, but Ive been getting back into gaming on it a little when I have free time. It use to kick butt but I believe the processor has seen better days and cant handle the stress of most new games I throw at it. I am Crossfiring a couple Radeon HD's so my graphics are fine. I believe a faster CPU will do the trick of the bottlenecking im having trouble with.
My Current Set Up:
MB- M3A32 MVP Deluxe
CPU - Phenom 9550 2.2 Quad Core that is currently overclocked a little to about 2.5

Its an old machine so I don't want to throw to much into it, but I do want to get something that will help it a long better.

It says it supports Phenom quads (4) and even hex (6) cores that are over 3Ghz. That would give a sizable boost in performance even before oveclocking. 2.5 -> 3.4 Ghz is 36% gain.

I'm sure there are many on ebay if you want to go used instead.

I understand that its old I mentioned that, but I know my Board supports AM3 and I can benefit from getting a new CPU. Every review I have read says that's a good gaming board and has a lot of potential for upgrades past AM2 chips. I would be fine going on ebay and buying a used old chip. Im just looking for something that's faster than what I have.

a phenom II 965 or one of the x6's will work just double check with this first

its a list of all cpus that will work on your board. but its probably best to just get a new board and cpu since even the phenom II's are starting to show their age, you can get an am3+ board and a fx 6300 or an intel 1155 board and an i3 for around 200 bucks

but if you really just want a new cpu and not mobo then a phenom II x4 will do i guess.
