Hi,
I don't even know how to start explaining this! I have recently reformatted my HP Laptop and re installed Windows 7. Since then I have this very dark mahogany effect on the desktop, which can only be seen when the background is black, be it while browsing, or viewing any photos with a dark background, and most annoyingly when watching a movie, any very dark parts of the movie, there's this wooden effect in the background all the time!!

Any idea how to get rid of this please, I don't know where it came from, it's nowhere to be seen in the Control Panel/ Personalise. It seems to be embedded under the desktop. Please help! I love horror movies, and most of them would be filmed in a dark setting.

Thanks!

Please take a screenshot and upload it so we can see it. Is it possible that it is not windows 7 related but hardware related. Maybe the video signal is damaged at the hinges? Try if you can see the effect when you reboot. If you can see the effect then its your laptop that is broken.

Thanks for your reply.
I have reformatted my laptop about a month ago, or more, and it has been there since I had rebooted the first time, and since then I have shut down my laptop many times.
I will try and take a screen shot but don't think it will be noticeable as it's very dark.
So if my laptop is broken, how come it would show this mahogany effect?

I think I know what you are talking about. I think I have seen it before a very long time ago.

I think the first thing you should do is to do a search for graphics card driver for your laptop.
Install it and see if it fixes the problem. Also make sure you are running in 32 bit colour mode.
