Which core 2 quad?
Which i3?
Which big card?
What is your budget?
For example, a core 2 6600 quad will not be quite as good as a i3-2100.
My suggestion is to budget about twice the cpu cost for the graphics card to get a balanced gaming pc.

the i3 2100 is 3 or 4 % more powerful than
a stock Q9400.

obviously, a 7950 is a small amount better than a 7850.

The q9400 can be overclocked WAY PAST the i3's ability, but that wasnt your question.

sapphire hd 7850 doesnt fit in it due to the large fan in the center of the dell optilex 755 minitower

If that is one of those 4 in wide jobs you wont make a gamer out of it cos it will boil. You need a low profile graphics card. post a pick if u can.

The 7850 is right now the only gpu i can run thatll give me some speed in games
it will be bottlenecked but still give sufficient speed
