I have an old HP Palivion a810n (64bit). Windows XP PE is current installed.

Linux Mint 64 and lubuntu failed to install. With MemTest I found some of the memory was bad. However linux still fails to install.

I'm wondering if there is yet another hardware issue and how to find it?

Thanks, Jim

With Hard drives run hdtune read drive smart info for any warnings. Run vendor drive fitness test. Check that the hp bios on the mb is up todate and the hp bios not the issue. As you said you had some bad ram did you replace it??? there are programs like ami diags that test the CPU and mb to see if there issue with the CPU.

Smorizio,
Thanks for your help. Yes I did replace the bad ram, now it has 1.25 gb ddr. The bios is ver 3.15 from 10/19/2005 (current per hp website).

I'll download hdtune and ami diags and see what they say.
