HDMI audio and video blackouts with Nvidia 660 TI

I'll try to cut a long story short.

I've recently put together a PC and it includes the Nvidia 660 TI graphics card. I'm running it into my Sony LCD TV via HDMI. It runs Windows 7.

Sometimes it will completely lose all audio and video and won't come back. This forces me to perform a hard shut down every time.
Sometimes it happens just after the 'Welcome' message upon booting. The only other times I've encountered it (because I've only had this computer made for a couple of days) is once when putting Steam into Big Picture and a few times during Skyrim. For anyone who's played it, which I'm sure is almost everyone, I start a new game and head down the hill in the cart into Helgen Keep. As soon as I go through the gate into Helgen, I'll get the blackout. This has happened on all three occasions I've tried to play the game and I would assume it would happen on other games too.
Since it happens at exactly the same time in the game, I can only assume it's a problem with the graphics card because it's obviously trying to load something it doesn't like, but then I don't really understand why it would happen occasionally on the boot message.
I've updated my Windows and Nvidia drivers as well as installing the stuff on the disc provided. I've opened up the case several times to check all the connections and nothing is wrong in there.

I ordered all my computer parts at the same time, all from Amazon, but it took a month and a half for my case to arrive so my month-long return window has finished. I've sent an email to Amazon but I expect the worst.

Is there any more I can do to avoid being £200 out-of-pocket from this?

Try a Dual Link DVI cable.

Won't that cause me to lose a significant amount of picture quality?

Digging up this thread because I've seen a best answer has been selected. I fixed this myself a while back. It turns out the problem was to do with the combination of my GPU and PSU. I have a Corsair 770AX (or something like that) and I needed to run two separate PCI-E cables into the GPU, instead of one with two 6-pin doodahs. An obscure solution to an obscure problem.

Ah, this may be my problem, I have the blackout when playing skyrim, plus I have a corsair CX750M with one cable of two 6pin ones feeding my gpu (GTX 760), but one of the 6 pin wires has an additional 2 pin wire to make one of the 6 pins an 8 pin wire, that might be why my hdmi is losing signal.

Also thank you, I will try getting two seperate PCIE power cables
