Hi all, trying to lower the cost of a build for a friend of mine ive recently just built my own set up and he wanted the same as me but now hes trying to save abit of money this is the build up to now:

MSI HD 7870 Black Knight 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R7870-2GD5T) with FREE GAMES

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail

MSI 990XA-GD55 AMD 990X Chipset (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

Kingston HyperX Genesis Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX)

Corsair Builder Series CX 500W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020047-UK)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) HDD

Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case

OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

thinking of changing the motherboard to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-539-AS&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=1481

still learning myself so not sure if everything is compatible and if this will be a good decision.

also thinking of swapping the graphics card to a gtx 660 black knight (not to sure yet)

thanks for any help/info

Solution
You can cut costs a lot by watching sites that have open box items for sale. You can expect to usually save ~30% on motherboard and GPU if that is an option.
