I have a very weird issue with my work laptop, that my company's IT workers have been stumped by. My laptop is currently connected via ethernet to my company's network. While connected I have access to any internal websites, ALL of google's websites, and it seems like most https websites (though I haven't tested very many, due to not knowing all that many). When I connect to my work's wifi (which is basically a guest network) I get internet just fine, but due to it being a guest network I can't access the intranet sites (what I've been doing is connecting to wifi and then using VPN to get intranet).

I have also connected my personal laptop to the same exact port with the same exact cable, and it gets both intranet and internet. I'm going to list things I've tried and tested in list form, that I can edit as you guys suggest things:

  • ■ Tried using Google DNS and OpenDNS with a static IP, and it didn't help.
    ■ Compared the ipconfig info with my personal laptop, and they are basically identical
    ■ When I try to connect to tomshardware.com (as an example) in a browser, it fails, but I can ping tomshardware.com from command prompt and I get timely replies
    ■ I have tried multiple browsers, clearing internet cache and cookies, but it doesn't appear to be browser-related. Additionally, I use Skype and it can't connect when I'm on the ethernet
    ■ I have rebooted my computer countless times, reset the adapter, updated drivers for both ethernet and wifi, and flushed the IP, all to no avail
    ■ The problem started occurring when I switched cubes, which led me to believe that the problem was the jack, but like I said, I have another laptop which works just fine with the jack.

The IT guys are still working on a solution, but they seem to be stumped, so I'm hoping you guys might be able to help. Please let me know any ideas or other troubleshooting steps I should take.
