Sorry if this is the wrong tread.
For about 2 weeks now I've been having this problem with my pc where it hangs on a black screen after the motherboard splash.
But when i restart it it boots and works perfectly fine.
I am fairly new to PCs in general this is my first build so can someone help me?

FYI PC build:
Amd FX 8150 @ stock 3.9
12 gb gskill (3x4) Ram @ 1066
M5A99x evo motherboard
PNY GTX 550 ti @ stock speed
600W psu
1T harddrive

Solution
check the HDD. If the HDD does not respond correctly you will get this issue. check the connections, sata and power. How about your Post beeps? are they normal, not beeping more than they did?

HDDScan will read the smart data from the drive to help diagnose if it is a HDD issue.

i havent run memtest(haventheard of it before) and my post beeps are normal just one short beep
how do i run/install either memtest or HDD scan(whichever is better)
and thanks for the fast replies

here is the link to memtest. http://www.memtest.org/ put it on a flash drive or burn it to a disk then run at the boot of the machine by pressing F11 durring post. then select the drive that has the program installed and run. I prefer the DVD/CD method myself.

here is the link to HDDScan V3.3 http://hddscan.com/ Download and install as a normal program.

there is a Funtion key that will allow you to select which drive you will boot from. Usually it is F11 but it can be a different key. Once in the window you will need to select the USB drive. If you installed the program correctly to the flash drive then the program should auto start.

EDIT: read the instructions on the web page on how to install correctly and which one you need to download for the flash drive method.

Like I mentioned it could be a different key. Each motherboard has a different Bios setup so to be exact is near impossible without knowing your system and the bios it came with. Yes you will need to boot from the USB Flash drive anyway it allows you to do it.
