Yep - 5ghz of AMD power that will be underpowered in comparison to the i7 that he listed.

Please stick with the Intel chip if you're looking to do high end gaming - which based on the rest of your specs you want to.

I will agree with changing the video cards from 760s to a single card (not necessarily the 7990). Buy one high end card now (or 2 if you have the budget). With one high end card you leave yourself open for expansion in the future by adding another one.

I cannot disagree more. The i7 is a bad gaming CPU value-wise. It should be i5 or FX. If you are doing any non-gaming the FX easily beats the i5 and nearly matches the i7. In most games the i5 has a small edge, but in some that are optimized for more cores the FX is either on par or ahead(BF3, Crysis 3). This will probably increase with the release of the new consoles promoting multi-core, specifically 8 core, development.

I'm not disagreeing that the i7 is currently overpriced for gaming as very few games use hyperthreading (see the i5 in my sig). It's mostly used for video editting and video conversion. However I still don't see anything in the near future using more than 4 cores as it would alienate most of Intel's users. Most games barely use 2 cores properly and there are still games out there that only run on 1 core (World of Tanks).

I wasn't trying to compare the i7 itself to the FX - I was comparing Intel vs AMD. This isn't coming from a fan boy either - I own both - I have an A10-5700k too.

I think they will make it so as both work well. The consoles will give them the skills to code properly for 8 cores. If they can take advantage of them on the PC why not? Its not that the i5 will run worse, simply that the FX has the potential to run better, that's what they will probably take advantage of. Games will probably use all the cores they can. Just like rendering and other CPU tasks do now.
