Hi,

I just joined a new company and they gave me a $400 budget to order a basic workstation.

Instead of getting an off-the-shelve model, I'm thinking of playing around with a DIY rig.

Details as below, please comment. Thanks in advance.

Budget: $400-$480

System Usage: Gimp, MS Office, Dreamweaver, Internet

CPU: AMD A8-3850
MOBO: BIOSTAR TA75M+
RAM: 2x2GB 1600 CLS9
STORAGE: SANDISK ULTRA PLUS 128GB SSD
NETWORK: TPLINK TL-WN781ND PCI
CASING+PSU: <=$40
OPTICAL DRIVE: <=$20
MONITOR: 19" <=$90
KB/MOUSE: WIRELESS <=$30

NO OS, SPEAKERS REQUIRED

Solution
Spending $20 on a PSU - bad, bad idea. You get the wrong one and it blows up or shorts out and takes your system with it. You want to spend minimum $40, maybe $60 to ensure you only have to buy your rig once.

I would do something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Pentium G870 3.1GHz Dual-Core Processor ($85.98 @ Outlet PC)
Motherboard: ASRock B75M-DGS R2.0 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($57.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($44.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($122.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: NZXT Source...

Hey dude! Check out this website. Easiest website to customize your own build... pcpartpicker.com Don't get an SSD, they're really good, yet when you're on a tight budget it's better to invest that money somewhere else. Just get some 500gb HDD... You might need a graphics card as well, even a cheap one, since you're dealing with adobe... Maybe 8gb would be nice, but that's up to you

Don't forget to click "Best Solution" It really helps out!!

Hey, thanks for the response.

I actually did up the build in pcpartpickers but I didnt post the link as some of the stuffs ain't available / price aint relevant from where I'm from.

Just for reference anyway:

CPU: AMD A8-3850 2.9GHz Quad-Core Processor ($80.00)
Motherboard: Biostar TA75M+ Micro ATX FM1 Motherboard ($52.00)
Memory: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($36.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($112.50)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN781ND 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Apex PC-375 ATX Mid Tower Case w/300W Power Supply ($39.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($20.00)
Monitor: ViewSonic VA1938WA-LED 19.0" Monitor ($87.41)
Keyboard: Microsoft 2LF-00001 Wireless Standard Keyboard w/Optical Mouse ($29.98 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $473.86

I do photoshop/gimp but I feel the IGP could be sufficient. Thus I'm going with a APU build. I seriously like the idea of a SSD over a HDD as I don't want to sacrifice the quality of computing at work despite the tight budget and I believe the SSD will do the trick as compared to putting my money into a better Intel CPU + discreet graphics for example. Minor twitches like PCI wireless adapter over USB... Wireless over wired KB/Mouse... The same chain of thoughts.

But I could be wrong that's why I'm asking for opinions etc. Thanks nevertheless. =)
