Hello i recently purchased one of these
http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY%C2%AE-SATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B001AAVA08/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376692350&sr=8-5&keywords=sata+to+usb
Its cheap and works great.
I did some reading and people claim that if you enclosure doesnt have a fan it will greatly reduce the life of the hdd because they over heat and die quicker. is that true? i know that heat does kill stuff faster but everywhere i read it seems like its necessary to have a fan. and i though well laptops have tiny little fans usually on the opposite side of the hdd and they work fine so is this just a myth, will extended use of that enclosure kill my hdd, i planned on installing steam on a 500gb drive to free up a lot of space but now i'm worried that i will kill it since it will be running when my pc is on. also do laptop hdd's have a higher heat tolerance, thats just something i've always wondered and that enclosure i got is for 2.5" drives and the ones i'm using are all from dead/semi-dead laptops.
