Z87 Motherboard Recommendations

Hey guys,

I recently bought an ASUS Z87-Pro mobo. Right after it shipped from the warehouse I realized the black and gold didn't go with my red and black CM Stormtrooper case, and MSI GPU. I could just deal with it but it'll nag at me. Is there a red and black mobo out there with a comparable price ($175) and quality? I'm considering the ASUS Maximus VI Hero, and the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming. I like the visuals of the MSI but I was pretty excited about my ASUS Z87. Anyways, here's the build I'm planning (starting with the basics and going for a SLI NVIDIA 3D Surround setup later): http://pcpartpicker.com/user/dmdordan/saved/1ZqD

Features I'm looking for:
-Gaming focus
-Optical out for my surround sound system
-SLI support
-Good OC-ing ability
-I like the wi-fi antenna with the Pro, so that would be a plus, but it's not a big deal

Or on the flipside, should I stick with the board I have? The only problem is the color scheme.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Go the Hero, much better mobo, OCs better, runs cooler....and to be honest, I won't touch MSI mobos for builds, I've got a 4770K in mine at 4.6 (and no problem getting there) 32GB of GSkill Trident 2666, and a EVGA 660TI

Great, thanks for the input. If I can sell this board I'll probably go for the Hero. I did a little research while waiting for replies and it seems like people are none too enthused with MSI mobo's.

I gave up on MSI completely about 2 and a half years ago, but going back another 2 years was using less and less of their mobos for client builds, got lots of DOAs and troubles with the mobos that arrived alive 2-3 months later, starting looking at their mobos closer and comapred to Asus, the Rock and GB the quality was poor and QC apparently even worse....never had much luck with their tech support, the people don't really seem to even know mobos in general let alone their own mobos....still get a number of them in for repairs and upgrades and the working ones do little to impress me, won't OC as well as the BIG 3 tend to run hotter (that's sort of in general) have seen some 'good' ones but few and far inbetween

Wow... makes me wonder about the graphics card I want to get. How good is their quality on GPUs? The price, look, and benchmarks are all right, but that doesn't mean much if they don't last.

Same, same, overall for GPUs I look to Asus, EVGA and Gigabyte - for your Black and Red theme in particular take a look at Asus, love their non-reference cooling design with the pipes, and all I've used from down at the 7850 on up OC well

Well I'm glad I asked. Can't argue with the same price for better quality. Thanks for sharing your experience!
