Currently i can run the majority of games on minimum graphic settings but some get lag and some don't work very well at all. I've read some articles and some threads but its left me confused so I was hoping to get some specific advice. Does my laptop need any specific slots or anything my laptop would need? I remember reading a while back about an external adapter that you could run onto a second screen that would only work for a second screen which would work fine as i have a separate monitor that is use for two screens. Also would it just be cheaper/better for me to buy a desktop pc? Thanks for any responses :)

There have been a few attempts at doing this. The most successful involved a laptop with an expresscard slot. Which yours almost certainly does not have.

If this were really possible, you'd be reading about this all over the place. Multiple variations, with a multitude of cards and laptops.
You don't.

Why? Because it is useless and a waste of time and money. What is the benefit of a laptop? Portability. Bolt on a box with an external card, cables, and power supply, and you've lost that single benefit.
And gaining less video performance increase than if you had plugged that exact same video card into a desktop PCI-E slot.

You want better graphics? Get a desktop, or a better laptop.

more like "want better graphics? i dont care spend, 1500$ instead of 300$ or 400$ and completely waste your laptop just because you dont have a graphics card!" you didnt even fuckin ask for comp info.

OP probably already has his desktop but il say it anyways, it depends on your pc. you need to do full research on it. ddont use then internet, just look into your computer. it takes time but it might be worth it. if youre using a really small eee or some peice of crap, it wont work. if youre using a semi workstation or large laptop with PSI express port it might work.
one important piece, dont listen to others until you know your computer. and as for new gpu, make sure you look for a PCI express slot. nothing else but PCI express. if you have it we can work from there, if not it will be difficult and a high possibility of frying your laptop and it will have a 90% chance of failing in the first day or two.
but you gotta look for that pci express.
but honestly op if you can only run minimum graphic settings and still get lag (excluding DayZ because even my friend's titan gets lag on norm settings) you should probably just buy a new one.
