Hey guys,

So I'm bummin right now- was in the middle of a game when I got a blue screen crash.

I just got the build put together last weekend, and it has been running like a champ. I ran about 45 minutes of prime95 (which i know is not nearly long enough to ensure it's stable) and had no errors. I ran 3D mark and my graphics card is running great.

I ran an analysis with WhoCrashed which found the following:

On Sat 8/17/2013 3:22:16 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\081613-7441-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: hal.dll (hal+0x12A3B)
Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA8009B03028, 0xBE000000, 0x100110A)
Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\hal.dll
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: Hardware Abstraction Layer DLL
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

Build:

- I5-4670k running stock
- Asus Maximus VI Hero running stock
- EVGA GTX770
- 8GB Mushkin Blackline ram running at 1300mhz (haven't turned up yet)
- Noctua NHD-14
- HX750 PSU

As you can see, I am running everything very conservatively. I have great case cooling and the beastly Noctua CPU cooler.

I thought I nailed this build, but seems I need to do a little troubleshooting. Where do you guys suggest I start?

Any recommendations are much appreciated

Make sure with new mb the bios is up to date. new pc and a game crash...try using msi afterburner if your not using the onboard ipgpu. New video cards fan profiles and drivers can some time not spin up to max speed and a gpu can overheat. If your using the onboard gpu...may got that part of the CPU hot and the system crashed.

This has been the first crash in a week of use. It hasn't happened again, but has been about 2hr and no gaming. I believe there is a newer BIOS but I wanted to avoid updating as it kind of scares me. I will do it if I need to, but I would like to count out the easier problems first.

My graphics card is an EVGAGTX770 running @ the stock overclock that comes with the card.

I have been monitoring all my temps like a hawk. Everything has been ice cool. Heat is not my problem

The Who Crashed report leads me to believe it's a hardware issue. Is this a reasonable assumption? All my drivers are brand new and I have no unknown devices. Windows installed flawlessly from what I could tell

Okay, so it seems like my options are:

- MemTest
- Prime95
- Update BIOS (There is a newer version that has been released for my board - ASUS' description is "improve system compatibility" which sounds somewhat promising)

What order do you guys suggest I take these steps in? Should I just update my BIOS first? Or run the tests first? Is there anything else that I should run or test?

Checking windows event viewer under computer management, which shows the logged critical error from last night (and doesn't give any useful information about it). One thing that caught my eye- I have 73 NvStreamSvc errors over the last week. Does anyone have any insight on NvStreamSvc? Could this be unrelated?
