Hello all,

After my friends graphics card died in his "HP Pavillion A1777C" running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, I replaced it and upgraded the processor, memory, power supply and added 4 more usb ports via a pci card in an attempt to breath a little life into it. He's on a budget and needs to get another year or so out of it if possible.

As soon as the system is powered on I get angry beeping from the motherboard. Initially too fast and random to understand but turns into 1 long beep, then 1 short, repeating. The manual says this is a memory issue. I've tried all four, then three, two in dual channel, and lastly one. I've cleaned, reseated, etc. all with the same results. After replacing the original memory everything works fine. The MB specs show they are compatible but... not so much.

I've been in the bios but it's pretty limited and there doesn't seem to be anything I can change?!

Anybody have any ideas on how I might get the faster ram to work? Am I missing something? If there's no other option I could attempt to match the existing unnamed memory and simply add two more 1 GB sticks of the slower memory but it seems like a waste, don't you think?!

Cheers.

Solution
if u change any of the hardware components u need to resest the cmos, power down , take the parts out then remove the battery for 20 secs then put it back in then put the parts back in and power up see if that helped with the problem and let me know

The memory is matching kits.

It might be a few days but thanks, I'll try that and let you know.

That was it "h3sham", thank you very much! Unfortunately to make it a little more challenging, one of the sticks was dead. I had to sort that out and ask an Amazon seller for a return/exchange but eventually got it all dealt with. Thanks again.
