I'm new to linux and just wanted to give it a try, so i formatted my windows 7 hard drive and installed the x64 version image of 13.04 to a disc.
I Boot to my 13.04 disc and i am greeted by the pinkish splash screen, and then my screen goes to black (but not standby) and i get a blinking little text bar....... for about 20 seconds before the blinkking text bar freezes and thats the end of it. Monitor is still on and responsive, just a black screen.
Im runnin:

ASUS z77 Sabertooth
Nvidia gtx 670 sc
i7 3770k @3.9ghz
OCZ Vector 128gb
WD Black 1tb
800w Cooler Master Gold PSU

Ive read it could be graphics card related but im hoping to get a confirmation.
Thanks, yo

Can you get to a virtual terminal? like doing ctrl+alt+f1, f2 etc? so it freezes when it's initialising the GUI? then i would assume it's a graphics problem yes, otherwise it could be crashing due to other unsupported hardware. I would first try and ask this on a linux forum, canonical may have its own forums for this.

Finally, you're trying to boot a live cd or running a GUI installer? it does sound like an issue with graphics turning on, the nouveau driver could be having issues with the gtx 670, Ubuntu 13.04 is on the 3.8 kernel, not sure whether it has kepler support. How about trying Debian Testing or Fedora 19? they have the 3.10 kernel?

another option is to install via text, install the nvidia proprietary driver and then start X11.

I'd be far more suspicious of a bad download or burn of the iso image onto the dvd. You did burn the iso to the dvd rather than copied it didn't you? Common error if you did and the are free dvd burners all over the net.

Instead of trying the default boot option try others in the boot menu such as alternative vga modes(if any) or "install" option instead of "try".

If the live cd directly loads the pinkish splash screen without showing the boot menu, hold down the right SHIFT key to bring it up. In certain cases, pressing the ESC key may also display the menu.
