Hello,

So I've been playing a lot of Shogun 2 but struggle to run it well in bigger battles, now I know Shogun 2 is very CPU heavy and I'd like to get a little more juice out of my 965 so I thought I'd give a shot at overclocking I used the CPU overdrive on Catalyst Control Center at first but a friend recommended doing it manually in the BIOS... I have no idea what I'm doing :??:

Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4GHz
Hyper TX3 EVO (Using the paste what came with it)
500w OCZ Core X Stream
ASRock 880gm-LE FX
Some Be quiet! fans to keep it a little quiet

Note: I made the mistake of buying a CiT Mars case because of the appearance, I was thinking of getting a Zalman Z11 to replace it in the future?

Thanks people!

Well, the processor isn't idle for overclocking. I would recommend to get a new CPU upgrade. If looking for save money, buy a AMD FX 6300 and overclock it (£90 from Amazon). I used to have this CPU and it was great for running CPU heavy games.

Your friend talking about BIOS, if you don't already know its the motherboard's sort of OS which controls the whole PC. And you can easily overclock from there. Watch a Youtube video if you don't know how to get to the BIOS.

Finally, I do want to point out that if you want to play other CPU intensive games in future without overclocking buy an Intel i5 or i7, (Have an i5 in my system). So in the end you can but the Phenom II will be likely to break in a couple of months because of your target. 3.6GHz may be alright but I'm not an expert at AMD CPU's

Effeectt, I know how to access the BIOS, I didn't ask for a better CPU, I lack knowledge of overclocking but I doubt overclocking will "break" the CPU in a couple of months. I don't have the money for the upgrade, you say 3.6Ghz is a good target but I've seen people get higher than that even with the stock cooler.

3.6GHz should be enough to run Shogun 2 perfectly. Also could you tell me how much RAM (This may be the problem)

8GB DDR3 1600MHz, so no It's not the RAM

Well, all I can say is good luck with overclocking the CPU to 3.6GHz. Reply back if you still have this issue in shogun 2 ;)

Well, the processor isn't ideal for overclocking.

I overclocked my 965 BE to 4.3ghz, with after market air cooling, I'm not sure why you would say that?

I used to have one but when overclocked to 4.3GHz, it broke and yes, with after market air cooling!

WOW! That seriously sucks!

I pushed mine even past 4.3ghz but couldn't keep it cool enough to reach stability past 4.3ghz and it was one of the CPUs I used to gather information to write the AMD BE Overclock Guide.

And guess what!

My 965 BE is still operational running my DJ computer! :)

Today, I use an Intel i7 3rd gen quad core. Its a beast when overclocked for GAMING :D

Actually for gaming it's no better than AMD.

Benchmarks like Futuremark and some Video and Audio encoding, Yes, Gaming No!

I'm running a 3770K myself.
