Installing new OS in old HDD

I bought a HDD about 2 months ago and made a clone of my old HDD which had Windows Vista. I am now getting Windows 7, what do I need to do to the HDD? Do I need to reformat it (wiping everything) or just install Windows 7 (boot from disk drive)?

Part of the Windows 7 install process is a quick format and the creation of a partition. So, it's not necessary to take any additional steps when installing it.

However, I'm somewhat confused by what your Vista os image has to do with anything. Are you wanting to take your personal files off of there?

Will the Vista OS be deleted when Windows 7 is installed?
