Hi...so my first time on here

I built a pc a while ago probably three years ago, i have gone through 3 ocz ssd. So i went back to normal hhd. Now i just bought a new kulher 920 waterkooling systemand thought ah i will install a new SSD. Bought a new samsung 840? Ssd and seems like it has died too..

It started with the blue screen of death a couple of times since wednesday...today i got it bout 4 times then BAM...after reboot got a insert boot media in selected boot device. I inserted my windows dvd and it does not seem to pick up my ssd to fix it.

I am clueless at the moment.

Asus croshair IV formula republic of gamer
Geforce 6900HD
12gig ddr3 1600mzh
Crosshair 1000watt powersupply samsung caviar 500gig and 2 terabyte(the 500 i used for os after my first 3ssd died)
And then the samsung ssd 120gig that died after less than 3weeks

Thanks in advance for all the help

CHange the On-Chip SATA Type to default or reset your bios settings and you may have to reinstall windows AFTER you change to ACHI.
As it was with my case cuz i had to reinstall windows after setting to AHCI
-For Now just reset your bios setting so that you can boot into windows and BACKUP your stuff if you want to later change the On-Chip SATA Type to AHCI then reinstall windows if you are willing to.

THEN JUST MAKE SURE THAT IN BIOS SETTINGS YOU CHANGE THE On-Chip SATA Type TO AHCI AND THEN SAVE AND EXIT BEFORE YOU INSTALL WINDOWS.

I have done that...windows seems to have installed...why would that setting change tho? I am a bit confused as to why this would happen...i did a restore to factory and then found ahci setting...i am at aloss...but i hope this will work...

Johann,

Check to see if the bios is reported in the bios of your motherboard.
If you can see it`s name reported and the overall size of the drive, the problem may be related to the modes you have set up for the Sata interfaces.

For the best compatibility of an Ssd drive always use Ahci mode in the bios of the motherboard.
Leaving the option set to sata mode can often cause problems.

Once the mode is chosen for the interface of the Ssd device, and the drive is formatted and windows installed on it.

Any change to the bios section and interface mode will render the drive unable to be seen as a boot device by the bios or windows.

Hence currently if the drive is not seen or boots change the interface mode in the bios save and exit try Sata mode, or Ahci mode. see if the drive displays and boots.

Johann

Set the sata interface mode to Ahci mode in the bios.
Run the windows install dvd, if it finds the drive to format then do so and install windows.

Remember if you reset the bios at some point also you will have to setup the boot order list in the bios again.

1. Dvd drive.
2.Samsung 840 ssd.

Looks like the mode did change if you say windows saw the drive and is now installing.

If the mode was set to Sata, when you went to run the windows install, there is an option to load a driver for the Sata chipset Sata mode.
You press F5 to install the driver provided by the motherboard cd or dvd.
Windows then get`s to the setup part where it presents the drives it see`s to format or partition.

If the mode in the bios was set to Sata, and the driver was never installed by using the F5 option of windows, the drive would never show up in the option box for detected drives to format or partition.

Ahci mode will always allow an Ssd drive to be picked up by windows install.

Anyway if you ever intended to use the setting of just Sata in the bios and not Ahci mode you now know what needs to be done so windows can see the drive when it comes to formatting or partitioning of the drive in parts of the windows setup.

I hope it gave you some insight.

Listen since you have changed to AHCI in BIOS and now you are installing windows you dont need to do anything ......
NOW you DON't need to RESET BIOS or Just forget the BIOS and
try optimizing the SSD
