I plan to do a Clean Install of Windows 7 on fresh SSD on Port 0 with the same OS product key as was/is on original HDD. If I go into my BIOS and select Boot from HDD on Port 1 will Windows load and consider the HDD as the location of the OS until I decide to Boot from Port 0 (SSD)

If not, Do I have any latitude since I have a product key for both Win 7 Home Premium and Win 7 Ultimate. I don't intend to migrate or clone any thing to my SSD. I plan to do a Clean install On HDD on Port 0 then unplug HDD and load OS on SSD on Port 0 then HDD plugged back into Port 1.

Any other suggestions/possibilities about how to use/utilize an SSD boot drive along with an HDD. Samsung 840 Pro series 128GB SSD. Seagate 1TB ST31000524AS

Any input would be appreciated.

Good choice....putting a parallel install of Windows on the HD is an excellent idea .... I wouldn't do it any other way.

1. Leave SSD data cable unplugged and install Windows to a 128 GB partiton on HD ..... install drivers and then to the Windows Update thing till it says "no mas" (I doesn't find any more updates). HD should be connected to 2nd lowest number SATA port
2. Unplug HD cable and connect SSD cable to lowest numbered SATA port then repeat Windows / drivers install procedure.
3. Shut down and reconnect HD. Check BIOS and check Boot order (SSD -> HD -> optical)
4. Now after booting to SSD, change ya 128 GB partition on the HD (one with Windows) to say X:\
5. Create and label remaining partitions as you see fit ...

D:\ - Games (625 GB)
E:\ - Programs (125 GB)
F:\ - Data (125 GB)

The reason you change the HD partition with windows on it is you want the same letter drive designations under both boots. After installing all ya applications games whatever under the SSD boot, boot from the HD (change boot order in BIOS or use alt boot selection) and reinstall any "important stuff" directly over themselves. This will create the necessary registry settings in the OS on the HD.

Now if ya SSD goes south or OS gets infected, ya can still do what ya need under the alternate boot or disinfect the OS on SSD
