Will this NB heatsink work with my motherboard?

I think the question is more like, are the mounting holes for NB heatsinks standardized and if not, is there any way to tell if this heatsink will work with my MSI 970A-G43 which is said to have insufficient NB cooling.

The mounting holes for the motherboard for its stock heatsink are at the opposite corners and it seems like this zalman one can be positioned like so. I just want to be sure.

Thermal epoxy works very well, but your heatsink will be mounted for life! Use it as a last resort. Thernal tape isn't designed to hold parts securely: it won't work for this purpose.
I was able to get the exact dimensions of the Zalman that you want, here it is: 81 x 37 x 47mm. The two smaller numbers are the lengths of the sides of the heatsink itself (the part that covers the NB), and the 81 mm is how far the cooling fins flare out from the base. The Zalman should fit if you have two mounting holes that are farther apart than 60 mm (on a diagonal).

The distance between mobo mounting holes is not standard in any way: you need to measure it. You of course also need to know the geometry of the holes in the heatsink, but most come with adjustable mounting systems so they can accomodate many different models of mobo.
