How do I connect Win 7 computer to remote Mac OS X 10.7.5 Server.

We have a Mac OS X 10.7.5 Server with several shares and all the users (8 Macs and a single PC) can connect to it without any trouble from the local network, and the Macs can connect to it from home - but the PC running Windows 7 can not connect from home.

I'm sure there must be a way to accomplish this - other than letting the PC connect via vnc which would give that user total master rights of the server, and that is NOT the purpose.

Any help out here?

Kind regards,

Peter

Can you tell us a bit more about the the users connect from home? Is it a vpn connection? You only want to share files?

No, we don't open a VPN-connection ... what we do is .... on the Mac's we type cmd-K and then type afp://ip-adress and then Enter. Then the Mac opens a connection to the server and we are asked to type username and password, and after that we can select whichs of the shares, we want to access - all users have different permissions.
There is a "shared share" which all can acces and which is used for file storage and sharing, and each user has his/her own share and two users also has access to a specific share with admin stuff.
With a PC with Windows XP we could type smb:\\ip-adress\sharepointname and get access but this will not work with Windows 7

It might be a firewall problem. You need to open some ports on the fw in win7 for filesharing.

If you are not using a VPN then you will need to open some ports on your Firewall - http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/what-ports-need-to-be-open... . But you should be aware that this is a security risk, and you really should be using a VPN.
