New Cooler on Old CPU?

I've got a roughly 5 year old computer that has had heat issues for awhile. According to SpeedFan, core temps are regularly in the 60-70 range. The current heatsink on the CPU gets incredibly loud when under load (perhaps 40-45 decibel range?). Eventually I'm going to just need to build a new computer, after buying this one stock. In the short term I'd like to just replace the heatsink to hopefully improve cooling a bit while also reducing noise.

Motherboard: Pegatron Corp Benicia 1.01
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.40 Ghz

picture here (yes, its dusty, I took the picture before I cleaned it)

I've got a $25 Amazon gift card, and had been looking at this as an option:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002XZM0HQ/?tag=pcpapi-20

It says it supports Intel socket 775 and partial support for Core 2 Quad, so I think it'd work. However, I'd really like to be able to reuse it again for my next build, and had been leaning towards a budget AMD build. The specs say there are universal sockets, but I don't know if that's what I'm seeing on this Amazon page.

As you can see in the pictures, I don't erally have easy access to the back of my motherboard, so I'm looking for just a simple install that will improve cooling while reducing noise, and hopefully be reusable for a potential new build in the next year or so.

I've swapped out things like hard drives, optical drives, PSUs, and RAM but this is my first time doing something in the CPU area, so I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice people might have to offer.

It's a 101i for a reason(i for intel). How big is your case(oem?)? You might consider a cooler master hyper tx3(link here):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028Y4S9K/ref=twister_B002XZM0HQ?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's capable of overclocking a 125w(or even 140w) phenom II x4 while keeping cool and quiet. Your q6600 is a 130w cpu that shares a cooler with q9650 clocked 600mhz higher. Since this hyper tx3 is a better cooler than the stock intel cooler, you might be able to overclock your q6600 to 3ghz by changing the front side bus from 1066 to 1333(using a program like set FSB) ideally paired with ddr2 667 ram. If not and your case can fit the hyper 212(92mm fan versus 80mm on the 101i), then you can at least enjoy cool, quiet performance...

Also, the hyper tx3 doesn't have a back plate that installs behind the mobo so it is somewhat easier install than the likes of a larger hyper 212(120mm).

wasn't the Q6600 a 105W cpu not a 130? i had a Q6600 before. unless you're talking about draw wattage, which can be a little more or less than the actual chip. by a few watts at least anyways. im also having a similar problem but backwards with a new cpu and OLD cooler.
