i was thinking about getting the amd radeon hd 7970 ghz eddition. but is it really worth the extra 80$ or should i just get the normal version?

If you have the money the Ghz is worth it, it runs a faster speeds and can be overclocked more. If you are on a budget go for the normal. Aslo sapphire is the best brand to get for amd cards.

In some games you may see that much of an increase, its value really comes in overclockability, getting up to higher speeds than a stock card will give you those extra frames on top of the out of the box gain.
