Is this build good for 2013

Solution
Right, so I have added a much higher quality power supply that is actually cheaper. Note that you don't need any more than a 550W power supply anyway, but you could dual graphics on this 650W, so worth it
Also added faster RAM that is the same price and NOT high profile, high profile RAM can block coolers.
Also added an SLI/Xfire capable mobo.

And that is it...

I don't know if it is worth it to get a Haswell unit, as most of the improvements seem to be for mobile computing.

I would personally get an i5-3570k and supporting mobo. Judging from the mobo choice you don't plan to Xfire so... The PSU is far overkill, you don't really need more than 600W if you get one of better quality. 650 if you like to over do it. With the money saved you can buy more ram to cut down on how often your SSD is used for paging file. You could buy an even nicer GPU, despite the 7970 being an excellent card. There's no shortage of ways to spend it, i usually like to get gaming peripherals like a nice mouse, keyboard, headset.

I have picked out some new parts for you here. The case needs to be bigger if you want it to be a gaming PC so that you can have proper cooling. COOLING IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU ARE BUILDING A HIGH END SYSTEM AND IS VERY COMMONLY OVERLOOKED. The case is also cheaper yet has the features you would want in a case. Next, I downgraded your PSU. You don't need 750 watts so I got you a Tier 1 PSU that will give you what you need and also save you some money. With the money I saved you from those two things I upgraded you to 2 8GB RAM sticks to really take advantage of your motherboard's dual channel memory which will come in handy when gaming. Some may say you need Crossfire or SLI but really it isn't necessary for you motherboard to support it. It only increases performance by 50% of the secondary card's stand alone performance. It is better to get one very good card rather than two alright cards.

With a PC build like you have you won't really need any new parts in 5 years. Maybe more RAM, but otherwise you shouldn't need anything.

Then get the motherboard with B85 chipset instead. It's much cheaper, you have everything you need.
For PSU, I recommend XFX 550W. It's cheaper, better and you get 5 year warranty.
Change 840 with 840 EVO. It's better and the price difference is small.
Also I'm not so sure about Asus DVD-RW. Usually I buy Samsung and I don't have problems with it.
