would i need a pci 3.0 slot for my pci 3.0 video card?

im going to be getting the amd radeon hd 7970 ghz eddition and a new motherboard and on my motherboard it says it only has a pci 2.0 slot...and on my video card it says it has pci 3.0.. do i need a better motherboard so i can fit my video card in it?

Pcie 2.0 and 3.0 are backwards compatible, there is a technical performance loss, but its nothing that shows up in fps loss. So it will work perfectly.

Nope, it's backwards compatible, and there will be no performance loss. PCI-e 2.0 is more than enough for current gen cards.

From what I have read you will be just fine with PCI-E 2.0.

PCI-E 3.0 and 2.0 are backwards compatible, there's a very minimal performance loss on the 2.0, all you'll lose is one or two frames.
