does anyone know a good laptop that I can use at university?

I am looking to do computer science so obviously it must have the capability to run compiler software such as eclipse and visual studio without slowing. I would like it to be fairly portable (not too big and heavy) and ideally it would have a full keyboard with discrete home and end buttons etc. I would like it to be able to run games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends as well. My price range is about £800 and less.

If anyone could help me out by suggesting a laptop to start saving for that would be great. Thanks.

You should investigate if any of the software you use can take advantage of multiple cores. To be on the safe side, I suggest a 4-core Intel CPU.

Specs like this:
1. 4-core Intel CPU (Haswell i5-4xxx if possible).
2. Windows 7/8 64-bit (may want START8 from Stardock for W8. $5.)
3. 4GB minimum (I doubt any of your software is RAM intensive)
4. 15.6" screen (greater than 1366x768 if possible)
5. Half decent GPU (you can Google whatever GPU's you find. This is your weak gaming link.)

It's possible a dual-core CPU will be adequate for you.

I'm from Canada so can't provide any links, but my three favorite laptop companies are ASUS, Lenovo and HP.

I haven't tried Vistart recently, but I can confirm Start8 works perfectly for me.

*Be warned that the 8.1 update (non-mandatory) will cause issues with this type of software. I know Start8 had to be modified and was tested with the Beta for 8.1.

I have little interest in the entire new Start Screen, but I will update to 8.1 at some point; however I think I'll wait for three months after release as I tested the Beta and had several issues (luckily I made a backup Image with Acronis True Image).
