Redownload and reburn/recopy the instaliation. Most times the download will go bad or while its copying to your installiation drive it mistakes a "0" for a "1" somewhere down the line. Also, it may set there configuring your instaliation for up to 30 minutes, so dont think that 2-3 minutes is it hanging.

Its not just Windows 8, all versions pefer a clean disk. And its always a good idea to do it as well.

Seems W8 won't create the System Reserved (350 Mb) partition if the drive has any pre-existing partitions, not sure if that applies to earlier versions, but agree totally that it's always a good idea...

Vista did not require a reserve, Windows 7 did a 100MB partition, and Windows 8 does 350. All it puts there is a basic troubleshooter, your boot file, and a few critical startup troubleshooting files. It only matters when you have a problem booting, its where the troubleshooter looks for info.

Also believe it's essential if you want to use Bitlocker...

Its where it saves the source code for it, yes. You can also (I think) use a external drive.
