I recently bought a budget pc, the following are the spec. i just want to know whether the PSU is enough for the pc.

Processor :intel i5 3470
Ram: Kingston 4 gb (1600mhz)Planing to upgrade to 8 gb
Mother board : low end borad gigabyte b75
hdd: 1 tb maxtor
two 120mm fans
gpu: sapphire hd 7790 2gb
PSU: cooler mater 475 Ex2

I was playing crysis 3 on high settings and the pc shut it self down with a "tuuf" sound. i knew it was the PSu. (i connect another psu to be sure, and it is the psu that got burnt)

So does this card reqire more power? i found out that the TDP is around 90 watt and i don't think all other components draw much power either.

well im no expert though.. ur ideas and recommendations are highly valued.
thanks guys

Solution
Any quality 450 watt(corsairs 430 is fine as well) unit should have no issues.

You are right that the card does not need that much power.

To be honest, I run a GTX 650ti on a 300 watt power supply(264 watts on its 12 volt rails) with no issues at all.

I do not recommend users try such things unless they take into account all the systems parts.

450 watts gives you a nice buffer.

Cooler master is not junk as most of the people thinks
my 2 firends are using cooler master psu for like more then 4 years with thier gpu's no problem at all but they are using the 600 watt version (NOT BRONZE :D )
but that particular model of cm looks like shit !

thanks..but the actual power consumption of the card isn't no way near 475w.

Yeah the PSU Powered it .. but couldn't take the load.! I should have done the research before i bought it. yeah now i know CM isn't a good PSU.. because a cosair 430w produce more amps than the CM 475W .. :). the requirement is 21amp +12v for hd7790..

haha.. yeah this is carp..!! CM isn't good enough to get the maximum out a Mid level GPU.. i'd have to get CM 625w to run my VGA which only reqires 475w.. :p

Yeah true!! it's all about the quality of the PSU. thanks alot mate. i do hav to upgrade this since the required ampz is not provided by the PS, which makes the PS overheat and that might b the reason why the PSU burnt in my case..
thanks mate.

Power requirements for graphics cards

As so many people aren't sure how much power a modern graphics card requires MINIMUM, I've decided to write a list of various models with the sort of PSU they require. Obviously it would be better to get something better than what is stated. It is only a rough guide, as it also depends what other hardware you have in your system. I hope it is of some use to people.

The following are the minimum power requirements using a PSU with a single +12V rail. Also these requirements are for a system containing basic components (unless otherwise noted). The more add in cards and hard drives that a system has, the more amperage draw on the 12v rail.

It is a nice list, but may need some revisions. The 5770 and 6770 are the same card(the absolute minimum you need for those cards would be about 300 watts as long as the rest of the system is light enough).

Here is a 5770 with an i5 750 running Just Cause 2 and prime95 together :)
