Is it okay to leave external hard drive's AC adapter plugged in after I disconnect it from the drive?

I have a 2TB WD Elements external hard drive for backups. I only use it occasionally, as in once every several days (if that). When it's not being used I keep the drive itself unplugged from both the DC and USB so it's not on when I'm not using it.

However, I do keep the adapter for it plugged in to the outlet. I do the same thing with my phone charger. It's always plugged in to the outlet, but seldom is it actively charging my phone. The adapter tips are just clipped to my desk, ready for me when I need it.

The thing is, my UPS/surge protector is behind my desk, and so it would be tedious to plug/unplug the adapter for the hard drive every time I use it. The way I have everything cabled and positioned is not conducive for frequently getting at the power cables.

I'm not worried about the little bit of energy it draws (if it does draw anything, as most adapters these days should be "smart" and draw nothing if there isn't an active load at the other end, plus my energy bill is never above $60), but I'm wondering if keeping it plugged in 24/7 is advisable, in the sense of it wearing out prematurely and if it is a potential fire hazard.

Is anybody here an electrical engineer by chance?

Thanks

Solution
If you plug it in and leave it (no HDD), does it get warm to the touch?
If not, its not consuming any power and you'l be fine to leave it.

I would think its fine.
