Boot issues with Win 7 wireless on HP laptop

I have borrowed a Pavilion DM4 laptop (the Beats audio edition), with Windows 7, Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030, and it behaves terribly:
when laptop boots, the keyboard function switch is lit white -- to show that it switched on -- but the adapter somehow thinks it is turned off. I have to (every time) use the keyboard switch to turn it off, and then on again.

Similar thing happens whenever the laptop goes to sleep through inactivity, or when I close the lid.

I think the adapter is managed by the Intel Pro/Wireless software, but can't be sure, and don't know how to check. I'm a newbie at Windows 7.

Can I fix this? How can I fix it?

Cheers,
Ben.

Thanks for the response, but it seems it is already set that way (i.e. 'Allow the computer to turn off this device...' is not checked already.

I'll try updating the driver - for some reason I expected Windows Update to manage the driver updates as well, but not so.
EDIT: -- driver update did not solve the problem.

It must be a BIOS issue? Grabbing at straws here.
