So I just built a pc and after having it boot up fine on the test bench it will not boot up after everything is inside the case. I took out the graphics card and it will still not boot, only the cpu fan spins for a second and the system is off.

CASE: Corsair 330r
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H
PSU: Corsair TX650

Solution
It may or may not be necessary, but the more support you give your m/b the better.

I know it's a pain, but try breadboarding outside the case again. Leave the cpu and cooler on the board, remove the board and see if it will boot. If it does, you probably created a short on board installation that can be cured by using all standoffs and making sure all of the little i/o shield prongs are correctly positioned. If one of those prongs is misaligned, it might create a short between output connectors.
Make sure you have both the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors firmly seated. Make sure the cpu fan is connected. If you still cannot boot after double checking all your connections, pull the board and test outside again. If it boots outside, chances are you missed a standoff or created a short with the i/o shield.

Made sure the cables were in but it still wouldn't boot. The case did come with a single standoff that I took off because it didn't fit but then I re-inserted the motherboard and it did fit without it so should I go back and put the standoff back in? Sorry if the question is stupid :(

Good news it booted perferctly outside of the case so I was probably missing a standoff, damn I really feel like an idiot now. Anyway I will try to fix that and will update. Thank you Mr. Mark :)

When you reinstall the board, take care to insure the board sits correctly on the standoffs AND that the rear i/o area fits into the shield without having any of the little prongs out of alignment. The i/o shield can really be a pain in #$# sometimes.
