7970 not performing as it should?

Hi there, i recently updated my old 6870 2 gb to a 7970 black edition, almost entirely to play guild wars 2. With the old one I got 60 fps almost at all times, but i bought this one to play more demanding scenarios like WvW or to get better framerates in the cities. Nonetheless I get almost the same fps than with the old one. Is the videocard not performing well? is guild wars 2 a disaster or what?
cpu phenom x6 1055t overclocked to 3.4 GHz
6 gb ram
psu 600w coolermaster

MMOs have always been pretty CPU intense. Pretty sure if you OC more or drop the clock, it will change the performance dramatically. Test it..

I also just tried metro last light and got 30 to 40 fps best looking settings 1920x1080

Drop the clock as a test, if FPS drops more, then you know you need a better CPU for those games.

Metro last light is ALSO reasonably CPU and your FPS is consistent with the below bench.

At least 400MHz, just to test. Obviously not much more needed.

just did it, dropped it to 3 ghz and the fps were exactly the same both on guild wars as on metro

Interesting. Unfortunately not a concrete test. If you have a decent cooler, try OCing some more. See if that makes a dif.

alright but still it is a little frustrating, i thought the cpu woulndt bottleneck and i feel like i bought the gpu for nothing ._.

Gw2 is not very well optimized for high end graphics card. I play with everything on max except for supersampling and shadows (I keep them on medium which gives me 10-15FPS compared to ultra and 5-10 compared to High) and I still get 40-60FPS in the more particle intensive areas (The Grove for example)

As for zerg action, I don't do WvW but I can tell you that following the zerg in the crown pavilion I got around 20-30FPS. I opt to drop the settings to max performance there and I suspect you'll need to do the same.

For reference my specs are:

i5-3570K@3.4Ghz
GTX 770 2GB
8GB RAM
SSD OCZ Vertex 3 120GB

The FPS you're getting are normal I think. It's just that the game is very very intensive on the highest settings... Drop the shadows to medium as it helps a lot.

I just found with gpu-z that the gpu is working pci express 1.1 instead of 3.0, could it be that?

You are gonna have to look for it, varies a lot from board to board. Likely under the north bridge tab.

It will never jump to three, I serioulsy doubt your board support 3.0. Besides, almost no performance difference between 2 and 3 for current cards.
