I've seen an OEM version of a gtx 580 for like £130. I'm new at this but that looks like a pretty good deal for something that matches the 7950 graphically (power usage not can issue).

The only thing is it says:

"Please note this is a OEM Brown Box Version for VGA card only and includes One Molex to PCI Power Cable all other Cables are not Included - with 1 Year Warranty"

I can get drivers off the website? What else would i need to buy other than a vga cable? does it just plug into the mobo then i'm good? This will be my first build im a noob.

Thanks for your time.

Yes just get the drivers from nvidia website.

You don't need cables or anything else. Power cables will all come from your PSU.

I assume you already verified your PSU was powerful enough and that it has the required 1 x 6-pin + 1 x 8-pin power connectors.

Looks like i'll have to look at a different PSU then i was looking to go with:

https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/Non-Modular+700-950W/750W+ARIANET+Gamer+80PLUS+Power+Supply+?productId=47999

but:

Connections:
- 1x 20+4 motherboard connector
- 1x 4+4pin CPU connector
- 0x 8pin ATX connector
- 5x SATA connectors
- 5x Molex connectors
- 2x 6+2Pin PCIe connectors
- 1x Floppy drive connector

so no 8 pin means this is a no go?

Have you guys got a good recommendation for a psu that will suffice. as cheap as possible but I know it has to be 80 plus etc.

The rest of my specs will be:

Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA II Hard Drive -OPEN BOX #56941 £ 16.65 £ 16.65
21.5" LG 22EN33S-B Widescreen LED VGA Monitor - OPEN BOX #56711 £ 49.99 £ 49.99
ARIAnet Triton Black Midi Tower Gaming Case #54783 £ 21.99 £ 21.99
750W ARIANET Gamer 80PLUS Power Supply #47999 £ 33.00 £ 33.00
AMD (Piledriver) FX-6300 3.50GHz (4.10GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 6-Core Processor - Retail #52724 £ 71.50 £ 71.50
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) Micro-ATX Motherboard #51949 £ 34.44 £ 34.44
8GB (2x4GB) Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Dual Channel Kit [BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU]

Im on a tight budget as you can see!

Don't buy a weak "no-name" PSU. Some bad unit might advertise a lot of power, but fail to deliver more than half of it reliably. I never heard of Arianet before and couldn't find any professional reviews on them, so I couldn't verify if they're good or not. Just remember that the PSU is what is powering all your components, so you don't want a bad unit causing system instability, or worst damaging something.

Usually I recommend people to get one of those brands that have solid reputation, high efficiency and reliability: Antec, Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, etc... See if you can find them in the U.K.

I can buy from scan or aria.co.uk just because they are local and I can pick up the same day. would an 80 plus gold corsair 600w do the job or do i need 80% of the total wattage so 750w. Pressed the solution already so I dont know how the rep thing works but it wasn't a slight!

while i like to get the rep it really does not matter to me so no problems there.

i just want to make sure you get what you need and you whole rig does not blow up.

seasonic is maybe the best power supply manufacturer in the world. corsair does not even make there own power supplies as they are a reseller. they do use quality manufacturers but nobody beats seasonic.

from a good manufacturer if it says 600 watts it will make at least that many watts. the 80+ certification only means at what efficiency it generates power from the wall.

in other words it will use more electricity from the wall to make that 600 watts, the more efficient the less power from the wall, but actual output should be what it says on the box

Thanks man I really like the nature of the tom's forum. Everyone is so helpful so Im almost semi confident in my build next friday. I'll look more in depth at the PSU's between now and then. Thanks again.

the corair you linked is manufactured by channel well and they are a respectable company also.

this is a list of who the actual manufacturers are
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-5.html

I do want to also add that the 80+ certification really means absolutely nothing and should be the last thing considered when buying a power supply. if all else is equal then the certification is nice to know that you are drawing a little less from the wall but it really only saves a few pennies in the long run and it will never make up the difference in having to replace equipment when something breaks.

i used a cheap power supply once and it burned out and smoked and it had taken out my CPU and motherboard when it did burn out.

and happy gaming.

this above link is to one of the premiere review sites on the internet. they give this unit a silver recommendation and they fail most units they review. please take the time to review this link. your understanding of what is a power supply will be greatly increased by reading this review.

i would dare say that after reading this review you will know more than 99% of the population after reading this review.

edit:

i just finished reading this review and they state that this an ideal unit for The Fermi Architecture which your new GPU will be
