Hi there, I'm currently assembling a computer and have encountered a problem. Whenever I put in my video card, my CPU will stop working. Now, the hdmi cable is connected from the motherboard into the monitor, and even with or without a video card there is nothing on the monitor, the screen is just black. Is there something I'm missing? My motherboard is new and hasn't been exposed to static electricity/whatever that might kill it, so it's not dead. CPU and CPU fan are working fine whenever the video card isn't there, but even then, the monitor screen is black. Everything runs well, except for the monitor on the screen and the video card. Please help! What should I do?

I also tried plugging the hdmi from the video card into the monitor, but then, the cpu stopped working as well and the monitor was black. I'm stumped, what am I doing wrong?

I'd disagree.... MoBo is not necessarily dead for sure ... at least if recent experience is any guide.

Thursday night built a system w/

Corsair 500R / TX850 V2
Asus Z87-A w/ 4670k
2 x Asus 770 DCII
16GB of Mushkin DDR3-1866 RAM
Phanteks PH-TC14 w/ Shin Etsu TIM

CPU LED went on w/ 1st boot ... assumed bad seating of CPU Heatsink or Memory issue ... took whole system apart left just CPU and 1 stick memory in. Reboot and fine..... added components one by one and had everything in but 2nd GFX card and all was right with the world.

Put 2nd card in and NG....switched cards and fine .... put 2nd card in with just one PCI-e -3 cable....booted fine. Put in 2nd cable no good. Turned out to be PSU and or PSU cable. Been down this road before and it was GFX card.

Dunno why CPU LED lights for a PSU / GFX card issue .... one of the reasons I much prefer diagnostic codes as found on the more expensive ROG boards.

Can I test boot it without the ram?

Also, the keyboard is plugged to the case and the CAPS LOCK light turns on and off every time I press it, is that a good sign?
