Hey all,
I pieced together a computer about 5-6 years ago with the help of a friend, with the ability to upgrade in mind, and it's performed well. Over the time I've had it, I've upgraded the RAM and graphics card. I've been out of gaming for a couple of years now, and getting back into it recently, I noticed how it's at the bottom of its class now. Here is my current setup:

$199.99
I'd like to not spend a ton of money, however, if there is a significant difference in performance between two components with a minor price jump, I'm willing to do it. I'd like this setup to last me another 5 years. I read through some of the build threads, which are based on $2000 limits. I'm curious as to how different a $1500 setup would be compared to one of those. I read the sticky at the top of this section, so here it is regarding a new build:
Approximate Purchase Date: Now
Budget Range: Around $1500 total
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Modern games such as Planetside 2 to engineering computer programs such as ANSYS or COMSOL
Are you buying a monitor: Undecided, it can be included if there is a good deal
Parts to Upgrade: All
Do you need to buy OS: No
Location: CT, USA
Overclocking: Yes
SLI or Crossfire: Yes / Maybe
Thanks for any help!
