Howdy!! I recently built my first pc about 3-4 months ago. I started with a Hyper 212 evo then quickly decided to try out water cooling and buying a antec kuhler h20 920. I really like it but now i want to overclock my FX-8350 @4.4Ghz more. I have been looking at custom water loop kits, and one that really struck my eye was the RayStorm 750 AX240 WaterCooling Kit. Then I read some reviews on it saying the 240 radiator is not very good compared to the 360. (of course the size makes a diff) but i am not sure if it will fit in my case.

My case is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119240

My question: If I put the 360 on the outside would it fit? (I would think probably but I would appreciate some closure before spending $200+). Also how big would the difference be between the custom loop and the khuler. What else would you recommend to take a look at for kits?

Thanks!

I was talking about generalities and having options..... and the "case is a case" comment that might imply to anyone reading this thread that just about any case can meet everyone's needs. It is important to kno when choosing a case whether it can fit the air cooler ya want if that's the direction you wanna go ... whether it can fit that 360 radiator ya want or if only a 240 will fit., etc....some cases will, some cases won't.

Having as many options available as possible gives you alternatives when something you assumed would work, doesn't because of something ya didn't expect. See the Asus WS / Kuhler 620 example below.

A case is a case if you ask me, all do the same thing. Plus a high dollar case is not your top priority when you have a budget on your first build.

Baller on a budget

I can understand that.... if ya doing stock builds ......if overclocking and using 3rd party air coolers or custom water loops, that approach would be naive. Ya cant fit the same stuff in a small case as ya can in a big case.....

Will your 140mm tall heat air heat sink allow ya to put the case side panel back on after ya done ?
Will the headroom above the MoBo allow a 25mm fan - 36mm radiator - 25mm in push pull ?
Will your simple H50 or Antec Kuhler sit over the rear fan opening w/o hitting ya GFX card (been there done that) ?

I agree no reason to overspend unless you doing so merely for aesthetic appeal that is important to you. But the case must have the functional ability to meet ya needs...... just like a smart car is not gonna meet the needs of a soccer mom, a case has to fit what ya wanna out in it......one that does this job very well is the Corsair 500R. The pictures of case interior on newegg for the storm enforcer unfortunately do not allow an assesement of this cases abilities in that respect,

Stock builds as in? Dont understand exactly what your referring to. The back of my case has holes for water loop hoses. And i dont have an air heat sink, I am using water cooling already but it is a closed loop. Antec Khuler h20 920 in push pull and it fits great, and its where the rear fan would go.
I can post pictures if you would like.

Yes, it's odd that we still see those holes exiting the case tho I haven't actually seen a build with an external radiator in ages....not many on the market anymore. Here's some ideas if ya thinking that way

Just cause the 920 fits under one circumstance, doesn't mean it will all the time even in the same particular case.....Using a bigger case than the Storm Enforcer, I couldn't fit a 620 in one user's build because he chose, and wisely so, an Asus WS Mobo which does 3 cards in SLI but more importantly, has 3 full slots between the 1st SLI slot and the 2nd. This allows extra air space between 2 cards in SLI and ya dont have the top card acting as a chimney for the bottom one.

The downside however was that this means the top SLI slot was higher than on a typical MoBo and the bottom of the radiator hits the GFX card.

In your case, I can't say whether the case is up to the job you are considering cause the manufacturer's web site doesn't give enough information..... or at least i didn't find it. I imagine if you did, you wouldn't have been asking the question so I don't feel inept at this point :)

It would be nice if everyone did what they did in this regard for the new Phanteks Enthoo case. And when I saw this I was 1st impressed but then, after closer inspection I found the material contradictory.... the FAQ says maximum height is 70mm at the top.....is that radiator thickness only or thickness with fans mounted in push pull ? Two fans wud eat up 50mm of that 70 if so.

All water cooling is by necessity "closed loop"....otherwise there'd be water all over the place. Other than reducing the weight on ya MoBo, which certainly is handy for LAN party boxes and such, I don't really understand the usefulness of these ALC coolers. When equipped with the same fans, they don't match the capabilities of the better air coolers.

Corsair H70 64.7 +3.5
Coolit ECO A.L.C. 64.3 +3.1
Antec Kühler H2O 920 61.2 +0.0
Cooler Master V6 GT 59.5 -1.7
Prolimatech Super Mega 59.4 -1.8
Antec Kühler H2O 620 58.7 -2.5
Thermalright Venomous X 58.0 -3.2
Thermalright Silver Arrow 55.8 -5.4

I think you are moving wisely in the right direction in moving from ALC to a custom water loop.

One ya might look at is the Coolermaster Prestige 240L....CM shud be able to give ya fit advice. Newegg reviews are very favorable.

As far as the Raystorm....reservoir coolers tend to be noisy, ... the rattling around and such. I am slightly concerned about the XSPC X2O 750 Reservoir Pump in, and by that I mean *inside" the reservoir* . To that end I would also look at the XSPC Raystorm EX240 Universal CPU Water Cooling Kit w/ D5 Variant Pump

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16070/ex-wat-210/XSPC_Raystorm_EX240_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_D5_Variant_Pump_Included_and_Free_Dead-Water.html?tl=g30c321s1310

I had intended to use this kit in an upcoming build but with a 2nd pump as backup up in case one went south. This kit will allow you that option later on if ya wanna go that way or want to add WC to your GPUs. Either way it's gonna be better than what ya have now and should be fun to build.
