this is a quote from wikipedia on why AM# replaces AM2+ ' The sole principal change from AM2+ to AM3 is support for DDR3 SDRAM.'
Now my motherboard is a socket AM2+ (biostar ta785g3 hd). Now the memory that I have in this motherboard is DDR3. What am I missing?

Solution
Many of the earlier boards were DDR2 and or DDR3, with the advent of the AM3 and AM3+ support is strictly DDR3 (or supposed to be) - there are also 'advanced' chipset changes which didn't really amount to much
