Hi.. My RIG's setup is as follows:

i7 920 (no overclocking)
HD7870
OCZ Vertex SSD (OS Disk)
80G WD HDD
2TB WD HDD
6x 4G RAM
Cooler Master V4

Recently, my rig will freeze for no reason, after waiting awhile, it doesnt blue screen or do a dump.. It will freeze there until I reset it manually..

I've checked, CPU temp's ok (60 degrees C), load < 20%.. Scanned 80G HDD, was ok.. (yet to scan 2TB HDD and SSD).. did memtest, all ok..

Usually it freezes after startup, within 3 to 10 mins..

Something I found strange.. after startup, if I load the CPU immediately, start some games and VM (CPU load > 50%), it wont freeze.. after that, when I turn off the game and VM, it usually runs for a few hours before it freezes.. However, if I leave my CPU load constantly > 50% (with the game and VM always on), it wont freeze even if it stays on for 1 to 2 days..

Any idea?

If it's the registry, then there should be no reason why it dont usually hang under load right? But, thanks for that.. Running it atm.. and see if it will hang again...

It's still freezing.. Only if I load the CPU when Win7 starts.. then it doesnt freeze.. However, this 2 days.. a new problem appeared.. after using awhile at 100% load.. windows explorer will start to lag and be not responsive.. all my apps/windows will be super slow.. where finally, it will be hang... do you think I should jus re install my Win 7?

Well, if you don't mind a loss of all your stuff, by all means. You may want to make a Windows disk image to a USB drive first, just in case it doesn't solve the problem. That way you can always restore your machine to the image.

I just hope it isn't a MB component failing.

Been using the OS for 2 yrs without re-installing.. haha.. i do mind actually :p The mobo + CPU, at least 3+ years.. I also hope its not a MB component issue.. the past 1 day was fine, no hang.. it's kinda random.. if re-installing helps.. no choice but to try...
