Now first off this is going to be my first time Overclocking so I've been reading on how to do it.

Right now I got an ancient system with an i5 760 CPU chip so if the thing fry I would have an excuses to replace my 4 year old computer.

One of the guides said to:

Increase CPU Vcore to 1.3V
Set CPU QPI/VTT Voltage to 1.3V

Now I am using American Megatrends Bios so those terms, CPU Vcore, CPU QPI/VTT are not shown.

In my bios I see:

CPU Voltage Mode [OFFSET]
Offset Voltage [AUTO]
IMC Voltage [AUTO]
DRAM Voltage [AUTO]
CPU PLL Voltage [AUTO]
PCH Voltage [AUTO]
DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHA [AUTO]
DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHB [AUTO]
Auto PSI [ENABLED]

Which one of these is CPU Vcore and CPU QPI/VTT?

Solution

Only the i7-900 series and multi-socket Xeon CPUs have QPI. The SandyBridge-E chips (3970x, 3960x, 3930k, and 3820) have QPI links on the die, but they are disabled as they are not used.

By changing the CPU Voltage Mode from Offset to Manual you can enter the desired value of 1.3 volts directly. Otherwise, with Offset you will have to add an offset value to the base value, which can be cumbersome to work with.

Solution

That's correct
