Is my disk issue a bad sector or a corrupt Windows installation?

Hi All,

My XP computer has repeatedly reported "minor inconsistencies on the C drive" every time that I run a Check Disk (as per the illustration below) -

Is the issue that I am seeing specific to a damaged hard drive (e.g.: bad sectors), or a corrupt Windows installation?

Any advice here will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

David

CheckDisk is actually not the best tool to use. I say start with the tests that Smorizio mentions. SMART errors are signs of hard failure while the SeaTools/WDDiag can scan the drive better.
