My PC set up so far - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1tCwo

I will be using 2 screens, 1 to have sony veags 12 and Internet up, and the other screen to have a game up.

Is this called extended or duplicate your monitors to do what I want?

More about : overkill good bad thing

Extended. Personnally I wouldn't get something that big, but I guess it's your choice.

I love that setup. I'm actually a firm believer in overkill, if you can afford it. The thing I like most with GTX 780's in SLI is: 1) You have a fast CPU and system to support them, 2) You have high refresh rate monitors so that none of the high FPS is wasted. With that system, you have a lot of flexibility for the future, maybe go for 3D Vision, add a third monitor for Surround, or heck, just play Crysis 3 at full settings, which literally with that system, you will be the only person who can do that.

Since with Nvidia you are still locked to gaming on 1 monitor or 3 (to my knowledge), and since they are 1080p displays, that is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overkill.

thanks for both responses!

So just to recap, overkill will have no negative effects?

Will (2) GTX 780 SLI increase my FPS in games than compared to (1) GTX 780

Also if I am in extended mode and I want to have 1 monitor full screened on lets say BF3, and have the other monitor full screened on Sony Vegas 12...is that possible to full screen both but keep it only to its only screen and not fill up both of the screens?

Assuming you have the money for it, theres no real downsides, and it would last longer into the future. You can have a game on one screen and something else on another but if you go to the thing on the second monitor the game will freeze until you come back to it.

When you maximize a window/program, it's always on 1 monitor. Nothing maximizes to multiple monitors except games in eyefinity or surround.

Saying the game freezes isn't right. If it's full screen it minimizes, as if you alt tabbed. The gpu isn't outputting frames but the game runs normally. But if it's windowed it's still there.

Some games will cause the other screen to go black; not many but it does happen (assassin's creed series, afaik of any modern games).
