I have a Panasonic TV that has great picture but no sound after a lightning storm. I just had a regular round coax between it and the Directv box and I had a DVD player also plugged to TV but I had all of them plugged in to a surge protector bar. I've tried leaving it unplugged for hours and I checked that the speakers are on, cables connected, etc. but still no sound. If I get a HDMI cable do you think that would maybe work to bring sound? I saw a post saying that they're just using AVI right now. What is AVI? I don't know anything about electronics as you can probably tell!! Thank you for any help you can offer!!
Also, if I hook it to some other speaker system would I have sound through that?

In the tv menu try setting the tv back to factory default. Try headphone in tv headphone jack if it works see if receiver ports was burnt out or the tv. If the tv under warranty call a tech.

Thank you smorizio for your response. I tried the resetting but still no sound. I can't find a headphone jack on the tv. Not under warranty either. : (
