For the same price, is HD 7970 worth it over GTX 760?

If I can get a HD 7970 brand new for the same price as a GTX 760, is the HD 7970 a better choice overall?

I do not plan on SLI or Crossfire, just a single card setup.

Thanks

If you can get a 7970 for gtx 760 price, brand new, sealed box. Definitely buy that. 770/7970 are more closely matched than 760/7970

The 7970 trades blows with the 770, so if you can get one over a 760, then that's a good buy.

From a buddy of mine it's new, he has an extra one never been used yet and I think it's a sapphire, is it a good brand?

The vast majority of them use the same PCB so branding makes little difference. I'd snap that one up in a heartbeat!

Sapphire are one of AMDs primary partners, they're OK.
Just to put a little rain on the parade:
The HD7970 needs a fair bit of power to run, make sure the installed power supply can feed it-you can use 6-to-8 pin PCI-E converter leads if your PSU only has 6-pin connectors but do NOT use molex/PCI-E converters, a loaded HD7970 can burn them out!
Check it will fit the case-it's a big card ;)  .
